The programme at a glance
The Master’s Degree program in Chemical Engineering trains the technology leaders of tomorrow: high-level professionals capable of conceiving, planning, and managing the design of complex systems and processes. Expanding upon the foundations of the Bachelor’s degree, the program develops a strategic and cutting-edge vision, combining deep scientific rigor with a strong commitment to sustainable and safe innovation.
Students acquire an advanced mastery of process engineering, sustainability, industrial safety, and digital control techniques. Through a synergistic blend of theory, laboratory work, and corporate internships, the course sharpens the ability to solve complex problems and lead the ecological and energy transition.
The Master’s Degree program is organized into three curricula, allowing students to explore and acquire specific, career-oriented skills in the different market sectors currently open to Chemical Engineering graduates:

Job opportunities
The program cultivates the mindset and flexibility required both for top management roles in industry and for advanced academic research (Second-level Master’s, Ph.D.).
Thanks to their multidisciplinary profile, graduates operate on the global market in strategic sectors such as the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, energy, advanced products, food, and cosmetics industries.
Main Career Opportunities:
Furthermore, upon passing the State Examination, graduates are eligible to register with the Professional Order of Engineers (Section A).
Admission to the programme and prerequisites
For the enrolment in the Master’s Degree Course in Chemical Engineering, in compliance with Article 6, paragraph 2 of Ministerial Decree 270/04 and in accordance with the procedures defined in the Teaching Regulations of the Master’s Degree Course, specific access criteria are envisaged concerning the possession of curricular requirements and the mandatory verification of the adequacy of the student’s personal preparation. These requirements will include, among other things, the documented ability to use correctly, in written and oral form, the English language (in addition to Italian).

The course of study includes 6 CFU of training and orientation activities during the second semester of the second year.
The Degree Program offers numerous opportunities for study and training abroad, both within the Erasmus+ program and through scientific agreements between the program’s faculty and prestigious European and non-European universities or research institutes.
Among the main European destinations with active Erasmus agreements are: Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Norway, Slovakia, Spain, and Turkey.
All useful information, calls for applications, and participation procedures for the Erasmus program are available on the Department’s website at the following link: https://www.dicmapi.unina.it/international-and-erasmus/
Customizing the study plan
As can be seen from the study plan shown in the table above, students can choose autonomously optional educational activities for a total of 18 CFU in order to personalise their training path. Optional exams must be indicated by submitting the study plan in accordance with the procedures indicated on the website of the course of study (http://www.ingchim.unina.it/?lang=en), unless the student intends to choose the following courses:
* only for students of the ‘Process Engineering’ and ‘Sustainable Engineering’ curricula”
** to be necessarily placed in the second year
Students can further customize their educational path by choosing one of the three paths described in the teaching regulations (available at https://www.dicmapi.unina.it/mag_ingchim/laurea-magistrale-ingegneria-chimica/). These paths are aimed at developing interdisciplinary skills and aptitudes to operate with a systemic vision in multi-sector contexts. The educational activities envisaged by the Minor usually correspond to a number of CFU between 24 and 32, of which at least 6 are reserved for extracurricular activities. Enrollment in a Minor requires the presentation of an individual study plan. The methods for submitting the study plan for enrollment in the Minor are published on the website of the Degree Course (www.ingchim.unina.it). At the end of the path, the student obtains a specific mention reported in the Diploma Supplement of the Master’s Degree Course in Chemical Engineering and receives a digital certification (Open Badge).
The Master’s Degree Examination constitutes the final exam for the attainment of the academic degree.
Admission Requirements
To access the final exam, students must:
Thesis
The final exam consists of the defense of a thesis written originally by the student, under the guidance of one or more supervisors.
Thesis Supervisor (Relatore)
The student is guided by a faculty member serving as the Supervisor (supported, if necessary, by co-supervisors), whose duties include:
Credit (Total: 15 CFUs)
The 15 university credits dedicated to the final exam are divided as follows:
Evaluation Criteria and Final Grade
The Graduation Committee determines the final grade based on three key elements:
Orientation to incoming students
The Degree Program promotes a rich calendar of guidance and orientation activities, organized in close synergy with the Scuola Politecnica e delle Scienze di Base (SPSB) and Dipartimento di Ingegneria Chimica, dei Materiali e della Produzione Industriale (DICMaPI).
To ensure you don’t miss any updates on dates and participation procedures, follow the official program website (https://www.dicmapi.unina.it/mag_ingchim/laurea-magistrale-ingegneria-chimica/), the SPSB portal www.scuolapsb.unina.it, and the official social media community “Noi di Ingegneria Chimica UNINA”.
Our Flagship Events
Tutoring and counseling
The School regularly plans tutoring activities aimed at first-year students. Students can benefit from the support of qualified tutors, selected through an open competition among PhD students. There are cycles of meetings during which the tutors monitor the learning status of the first-year subjects and provide support to the students while maintaining close coordination with the lecturers in charge of these subjects.
Career orientation and job placement
The Degree Program projects students into the professional world through outbound guidance and placement initiatives, organized in synergy with DICMaPI, la Scuola Politecnica (SPSB) and l’Ateneo Federico II.
The connection with corporate partners is established through two main activities:
