The Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
(EEIT) Degree Programme offers a broad and interdisciplinary academic education in the core areas of both Electrical Engineering and information technology, covering Computer Science and Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, Automation and Robotics, Bioengineering, Data Science.
The curriculum is designed to develop strong analytical skills, rigorous problem-solving abilities, and the technical competences required to address complex challenges in information and energy technologies. The programme combines solid theoretical foundations with practical and applied learning, equipping graduates to work effectively in rapidly evolving technological contexts and to contribute successfully to multidisciplinary teams and projects.
Five semesters of the course are devoted to core subjects, not only in the fields of Mathematics and Physics, but also focused on the methodological foundations of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. Hence, students develop a strong interdisciplinary background, that allows them to deal with applications in an extremely wide range of different disciplines. The last semester of the course is dedicated to a focus on selected and elective topics, allowing students to specialize in a specific sector of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Graduates in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology may pursue a wide range of career opportunities, including positions as:
Additional employment opportunities are available in both public and private organizations, where graduates may contribute to the management and implementation of technological solutions, support digital transformation processes, and participate in the integration of complex systems.
Graduates may pursue master studies in the field of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, Automation and Robotics, Bioengineering, Data Science.
Admission to the bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is made according to Italian universities’ regulations.
The main prerequisites are as follows:
Detailed instructions can be found at https://eeit.dieti.unina.it/index.php/admission
Details can be found at: https://eeit.dieti.unina.it/index.php/bachelor-s-degree/teachings
The study plan is organized as follows.
The choice of elective subjects and of the major will be done only after passing the main subjects, hence allowing full awareness and knowledge of the students.
The peculiarity of the study plan will allow students to pursue a master degree in any field of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and also of different subject areas.
Students enrolled in the Degree Program may decide to carry out internships or training periods with organisations or companies that have an agreement with the University. Traineeship and internship are not compulsory and contribute to the award of credits for the other training activities chosen by the student and included in the study plan, as provided for by Art. 10, par. 5, letters d) and e), of Ministerial Decree 270/2004.
Further details can be found at: https://eeit.dieti.unina.it
The main international exchange programme is the Erasmus programme. Details are available at the following link: https://erasmus.dieti.unina.it/index.php/en/
The last semester is devoted to the choice of the “major” and of elective courses.
Students must choose one “major” among those proposed, selecting two subjects (18 credits) from the corresponding list. Students can freely choose further 18 credits as elective courses, provided that the choice is culturally coherent with the overall study plan. Students who will choose also elective courses from the same list of subjects in the majors, will be granted a “special major”, if they choose a third subject of the major, or a “double major”, if they choose two subjects of a different major.
Examples:
Choice of major: Automation and robotics
Choice of subject of the major: “Automatic control” + “Operational research”
Details can be found at https://eeit.dieti.unina.it/index.php/bachelor-s-degree/teachings
The degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is obtained after passing a final exam, consisting of the evaluation of a written report, prepared by the student under the guidance of a supervisor, which focuses on training activities carried out in the context of one or more courses or internship activities.
The final exam is taken by the Candidate before a Commission chaired by the Coordinator of the Study Program and consists of the presentation of the work carried out under the guidance of a Supervisor and the subsequent discussion with the members of the Commission.
The candidate is allowed to use an audio-visual support, to be projected publicly, or, alternatively, to draft a summary booklet, to be given a copy to each member of the Commission.
At the end of the presentation, each member of the Commission can make observations to the candidate, relating to the topic of the thesis work. The presentation lasts 10 minutes, including the discussion with the examiners.
With regard to incoming orientation activities, initiatives are planned for both individual students and Secondary Education Institutions (the latter available only to students already residing in Italy). In particular:
The calendar of individual events is usually published on both the website of the Polytechnic School and School of Basic Sciences (https://www.scuolapsb.unina.it/orientamento-in-ingresso/ ) and the DIETI website (https://www.dieti.unina.it/index.php/it/studenti/orientamento2 ), and will also be available on the degree program website. Typical events include:
Given the international nature of the Degree Program, online orientation events dedicated exclusively to international students will be also planned. These events are expected to take place between April and July each year, concurrently with the students’ application period through the Universitaly portal (https://www.universitaly.it/).
With regard to ongoing orientation and tutoring activities, the Degree Program will participate in the tutoring initiatives coordinated by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) and by the Polytechnic School and School of Basic Sciences (SPSB). In particular, tutoring support will be provided, primarily aimed at strengthening students’ foundational knowledge in mathematics, physics, and computer science where necessary, enabling them to undertake their academic path with confidence.
Tutoring activities will complement and expand upon regular lectures and will focus on the topics covered by the course instructor. Theoretical clarifications may be provided, but particular emphasis will be placed on presenting exercises and past examination papers, together with detailed solutions and explanations.
With regard to career guidance and employment support initiatives, the Degree Program will organize outgoing orientation activities in coordination with its Department, the Polytechnic School and School of Basic Sciences, and the University. In particular, the Degree Program will publicize a list of opportunities for extracurricular internships (i.e., post-graduation internships) and job openings.
In addition, opportunities of interest to Degree Program students will also be available through the job placement platform managed by the Polytechnic School and School of Basic Sciences, accessible at www.jobservice.unina.it. The platform is designed for both students and companies, with the aim of facilitating the matching of supply and demand for curricular internships (pre-graduation), extracurricular internships (post-graduation), and employment opportunities.
To reduce placement times and help students make more informed career choices, the Degree Program will contribute to the “Career Day@SPSB” event organized by the Polytechnic School and School of Basic Sciences each spring. During this event, students and recent graduates have the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the business sectors of participating companies and the professional profiles they offer.
Enrollment and registration for subsequent academic years normally take place from July 26 to October 31 of each year, according to procedures specified in the Enrollment and Tuition Fee Payment Guide, which is published at the following link:
