Strutture per l'Ingegneria e l'Architettura
The Master’s Degree in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering (STReGA), offered by the Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture (DIST), is a bilingual program that also offers a track taught entirely in English (MSc in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering).
The STReGA Master’s program aims to train professionals who are experts in the design and construction of load-bearing structures for civil engineering projects and in the analysis of related geotechnical issues. The fields of application for graduates of this master’s program are diverse and include: residential and commercial construction, industrial buildings and facilities, road and rail infrastructure (bridges, viaducts, tunnels, embankments), hydraulic works (dams and reservoirs), large sports facilities, coastal and offshore marine structures, shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments made of loose materials, and underground construction. The importance of ensuring full safety for the structures mentioned above, the widespread prevalence of many of them, as well as the significance and ever-increasing focus on seismic issues and other natural and man-made risks (e.g., fires and explosions), along with the related need for detailed risk assessment for the purposes of design, consolidation, and repair of existing building stock (dilapidated buildings, historic districts), create a vast and multifaceted field of practice for the master’s graduate. The courses will therefore provide the scientific foundations and techniques—both traditional and innovative—to address the challenges of the sector.
The Master’s graduate in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering will be a conscientious and critical professional, equipped with the necessary theoretical and scientific background, qualified to initiate, carry out, and manage even complex design activities, with strong design, operational, and managerial skills.
Employment opportunities:
The main occupational outlets for the master’s degree STReGA are:
For admission to the Master’s Degree Program in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or another foreign qualification recognized as equivalent.
The academic requirements for admission are—as a rule—automatically met by graduates of degree programs in Class 8 in Civil and Environmental Engineering pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/99 and of degree programs in Class L-7 in Civil and Environmental Engineering pursuant to Ministerial Decree 270/04.

The master’s degree in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering is divided into a curriculum or basic training course and a training course with all teaching in English (MSc in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering). The courses, which may be divided into modules, include the indication of the scientific fields and disciplines to which they relate; credits are allocated to each training activity.
The master’s degree is obtained by acquiring 120 ECTS by passing the exams, in a number not exceeding 12, and the performance of other training activities. To count examinations, the characterizing activities, the related or complementary, and those independently chosen by the student should be considered. The attribution of the ECTS provided for these latter must be counted as a single examination, without prejudice to the student’s freedom to choose among all the courses activated in the University, as long as they are consistent with the training project, and the possibility of acquiring further ECTS in the basic and characterizing disciplines.
It is also possible to include courses taught in English in the basic training program.
It is possible to take an intra-internship, in the facilities of the University, and an extra-internship, at a company headquarters. The activities, aimed at strengthening skills useful for speeding up the integration into the world of work, are conducted under the supervision of a tutor, academic for the intramoenia internship, and from the company for the extramoenia internship).
The training objectives are mainly related to the enhancement of soft skills (c.d. soft skills) which are only partially developed in the other training activities. All the traineeship activities are aimed at:

From the year 2023/2024 it is possible to enroll in the training course aimed at the issuance of the double title (Double Degree – DD): Master’s degree in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering (class LM-23 – class of Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering) University of Naples Federico II and the Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon, in application of the Agreement for the Collaboration for the Award of Double Degrees between the University of Naples Federico II and the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon (Portugal).
The training course will take place in Naples, at the venues of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School of the University of Naples Federico II (abbr. UNINA), and in Lisbon, at the venues of the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon (abbr. IST).
The study program required for the double degree is 120 credits. The lessons of UNINA are in English and/or Italian, and those of Técnico Lisboa are in English. Students will take the first year of the master’s degree (60 ECTS) at UNINA and the second year (30+30 ECTS) at IST.
In the second year, the student will develop the thesis at the partner institution (30 ECTS). The thesis must be written in English and submitted to the host institution. The Graduate Committee will be composed of lecturers from both institutions. The individual study plan for the duration of the mobility program, including the thesis, must be defined and approved by both institutions. It should be drawn up based on the manifests of the STReGA (UNINA) and the master’s degree in Civil Engineering (IST).

Orientation
The entry orientation activity is aimed at students from secondary schools and aims to provide information on the framework of the educational offer of the different cultural areas through the presentation of cultural profiles and outlets The professionals associated with the different courses of study; the educational organization, cultural and aptitude requirements (contents of the entrance test, how to discharge any additional training obligations, OFA).
The guidance activity is developed in three complementary ways:
Ongoing orientation and tutoring
The course of study also provides in-service tutoring to support courses selected as a priority from the basic and characteristic courses offered during the first years of the course. Support from qualified tutors is available to selected groups of students who have learning difficulties.
The Tutors are identified through a selective procedure established with a Call for Selection following the measures to support tutoring provided by the Law of 11 July 2003 n. 170. Altogether 120 Tutors are made available, in part (60) selected from students of the PhD Programs, in part (60) from the most brilliant students of the master’s degree courses incardinated in the Departments of the School. Thanks to in-service tutoring, the Tutors meet groups of students on a cyclical basis, not exceeding 25 units, Monitoring the learning status of the subjects taught during these meetings and providing support to students by maintaining close coordination with the teaching staff.
Support services, mainly aimed at students in the 1st and 2nd year of the Degree, are also provided by the SINAPSI University Center (www.sinapsi.unina.it), aimed at reducing the phenomenon of dropout.
Starting from a.y. 2023/2024, to provide a constant and immediate reference during the studies, the CdS has activated an additional service of on-the-go tutoring, assigning each student a tutor teacher of reference. This initiative aims to give students a constant and immediate reference to which to turn for any doubts or difficulties that arise while studying.
The career support program is carried out through a variety of initiatives. Since January 2011, Federico II University has been a member of the AlmaLaurea inter-university consortium with a twofold purpose: to align the career paths of recent graduates with the range of potential job opportunities targeted by AlmaLaurea; and to collect statistical data on the career outcomes of Federico II graduates in order to implement appropriate measures to guide educational pathways.
Support for career transition is provided at various levels; in addition to general events organized by the University’s support structures, we note the activities organized by the Graduation Guidance and Placement Commission with the assistance of the Office of Admission and Graduation Guidance, relations with the school system, placement, and outreach, established in 2018 and 2021, respectively, by the School of Engineering and Basic Sciences at the University of Fridericia.
Furthermore, the JobService platform manages the matching of supply and demand between companies and students and has been developed to meet the specific needs of stakeholders (employers and students/graduates).
The platform allows registered employers to post job openings and internship opportunities, receive applications, and conduct preliminary screening based on key selection criteria (GPA, prior experience, language proficiency, etc.).
Students and graduates of the PSB School, on the other hand, can upload their resumes without any formatting restrictions, apply for open positions, and—thanks to the blog section—stay informed about placement and training events designed to support the development of employability and soft skills, whether organized by the School itself or offered by external providers.
With the support of the career services office and thanks to the Jobservice platform, the Commission organizes various activities each year exclusively dedicated to enhancing employability and facilitating placement for graduates of STEM programs offered by the School of Engineering and Basic Sciences at the University of Fridericia (in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, and MFN Sciences).
On March 26, at the Monte Sant’Angelo University Campus, the eighth edition of the SPSB Career Day 2026 was held, allowing graduates and soon-to-be graduates to meet HR managers and professionals from over 70 participating companies and participate in introductory interviews aimed at corporate recruitment.
It is also worth noting the intensive interaction of the Department, in coordination with the other departments of the PSB School, with representatives of professional associations and trade organizations. The initiative aims to ensure continuity and stability in the development of initiatives aimed at supporting students’ transition into the workforce and promoting interactions between the University of Naples Federico II and the industrial sector.
